It's taken a little while, but the Nintendo 3DS is finally getting its first system update, and it's a big one. From June 7th, users will finally have access to an internet browser and the eShop, which will allow for the purchase of new and classic games straight to the system. The eShop has ditched the Nintendo Points system and will display prices in dollar terms. In the US, some games retail for as low as $2, so you can clearly see the Apple influence.

Anyone that logs in during the first month (i.e. until July 7th) will nab themselves a free copy of the NES Excitebike remastered in 3D. Other titles debuting next week include Super Mario Land and Tennis, with more content arriving every Thursday. Also of interest to many will be the Pokédex 3D, which integrates SpotPass and AR features.

Speaking of which, you can expect to see some SpotPass (that's the public Wi-Fi hotspot downloads) sites established soon, with the promise of 3D trailers, comedy clips and music videos. The internet browser is accessible during gameplay by entering the home screen, and can show 3D images where sites support it. They can also use it to upload 3D images you've taken with the cameras.

Will this be enough to get you to open your 3DSs again, or are you still waiting on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D?

It's enough to make me open mine. If nothing else, the free Pokedex is pretty cool.
