60gb PS3 to be phased out in the US
PS3

SCEE (US) President David Reeves has confirmed to gameindustry.biz that the 60gb Playstation 3 model will be phased out in the United States when stocks sell out. This should be towards the end of this month with the $100USD price cut on offer for that model.
This will mean Americans will have to make do with the 80gb model, which comes with a bundled game, and higher price tag at $599USD.
In reality, this puts the US model closer to the price of the new PAL package of the 60gb model, one extra controller, and 2 bundled games.
Sliced Comments: Looks like Sony has realised they can make more money by offering a slightly larger hard drive, and in effect raising the whole PS3 entry point. Thankfully for Australians the PS3 hard drive can be upgraded to a larger model relatively easily by any standard 3.5" laptop drive, so consumers can upgrade their own console if they wish.
