It's a blast from the past, Syndicate style. We can't blame you if you haven't heard of the series before, but here's your chance to catch up. The original Syndicate game was released for the Commodore Amiga and MS-DOS back in 1993 as an isometric real-time tactical game. Players were placed in charge of a massive corporation in a gritty near-future cyberpunk-style world. The aim was to be the number one syndicate throughout the world, through eliminating your enemies, and the rival syndicates. The game was fairly successful, and spawned a sequel called Syndicate Wars in 1997. The sequel retained the same basic gameplay, while touting improved graphics and AI.

The series ended with the release of Wars, but Electronic Arts and Starbreeze Studios (The Darkness, The Chronicles of Riddick) have now announced that they're rebooting the series with the release of Syndicate next year. Unlike the previous titles, the game is a sci-fi themed FPS. In the game, players take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp’s latest prototype agent. Through the DART 6 bio-chip technology implanted in his head, gamers can slow down time, see through walls, and hack into the digital world as well as the enemies around them using a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics. EA have released a bunch of screenshots, as well as an announcement trailer, both of which are attached to this article.

The game is currently set for a release in Australia on the 23rd of February next year.

I loved Syndicate 1 and 2, one of the most memorable games that I ever got stuck into when younger.

Will be interesting to see how the reboot does!

Yeah, a lot of people are raging that it's an FPS, but it'd be hard to do an old squad game like Sydnicate these days. At least they're keeping a few things sorta true to the original... like 4 player co-op and all that. Some of the action looks pretty cool too. I like those bendy bullet.
