Mistwalker revealed it had a DS title in development late last year, but only now have we discovered a bit about it. ASH is a simulation RPG - a game genre favoured by Mistwalker boss and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.

"ASH" is a rather neat acronym for Archaic Sealed Heat, which ties in to the plot of the story. In the game, an ancient flame that was sealed away long ago. The legend says that those who are burnt by the flame turn to ash and are then reborn. During this process, the person's heart and memories remain.

The main character is Queen Aisha. She attempts to work out why the dead are being reborn, even without them encountering the flame. In the game she'll come into contact with a mystery that's been buried beneath the earth since ancient times, and become entangled in other mysterious affairs. The game will be fully 3D, with realistic visuals; the top screen has a birds-eye view of the action, while the bottom looks over the should of the character.

Sakaguchi isn't the only big name working on the title - character design is the work of Hideo Minaba, of the Final Fantasy. Hitoshi Sakimoto is working on music composition, just like on Final Fantasy XII.

This game has all the right credentials, so we advise you keep a very close eye on it.
