Carmack Talks Tech 5, Rage, Doom 4
PC, PS3, Xbox 360

ID Software's John Carmack has revealed in a new interview many new details regarding their Tech 5 engine, their game Rage, and also talks about Doom 4. The biggest news is that Doom 4 will actually run a more detailed version of the Tech 5 engine seen in Rage, which has been impressive on it's own. Rage is targeted to run at 60fps, and Doom 4 is set to run at 30fps to add further details.
It's a good interview, and lots of thoughts on developing for multiple platforms, including going towards a unified code base.

I don't know what to think about Doom 4 - The original Dooms were in a class of their own, just epic. But 3 let me down a little - look'd sweet, even if my comp couldn't run it well at the time - but I found it a little repetitive, espec since they reused the story line.
Having said that, the original story was well thought out and incredibly unique, so it wasn't all bad to see it again.
At any rate - My comp won't be seeing a huge revamp any time soon, but hopefully I can check this out on console!
FFS, put some damn underlines in the text or something so I know there's a link in there, somewhere, lurking in the grass like a lioness on the African savannah, waiting to pounce on me and...yada yada yada, analogy over.
More underlining please.

Fully agree. It would defiantly be cool if that could happen.
It's underlined in the actual news article, so if you can't see it here just go to the actual thing, that's what I do. It's interesting that the formatting doesn't properly cross over.

I get that but it would be easier if I didn't have to go there to read about it then come back to comment on it.
Soon you'll be able to login on the main page and leave comments there instead of the forums, so hopefully you'll start your visit on the main page and then continue through to the forums when you're done.
yada, yada, quit your whinging - obvious enough now?
p.s. Rage looks amazing.
Took 5 posts for someone to mention the tpoic at hand and not the ay in which it was presented =\
Holy shit Pred, that looks amazing! <3
About the interview: Carmack is a god. Quake Live is going to rock, Rage looks great, but I'd have to play it to know what it was about. I actually liked Doom 3 and the way it was presented, but hopefully Doom 4 will go back to the roots of the series and give it more of a chaotic "army of hell" vibe than the series-of-dark-tunnels-with-a-few-scary-monsters at a time deal that was Doom 3.
tl;dr more monsters at a time please! One big monster in a corridor is not as scary as fifty cacodemons, one hundred imps and a cyberdemon in one large room and the floor is made of lava and the BFG is sitting in the middle.
