Visceral Games, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc, announced this week that Dead Space Ignition, the prologue to the upcoming Dead Space 2, will be available
October 14 as a free download to anyone that pre-orders Dead Space 2 at participating retailers in Australia. Although, anyone who doesn't pre-order can still get their hands on the prologue as a stand-alone game for $8.45 October 13 on the PlayStation Network and October 14 on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 400 MS points.

Dead Space Ignition reveals the events leading up to Dead Space 2 and rewards players with unlocks including an exclusive Hacker suit which can be used by engineer Isaac Clarke in Dead Space 2.

"Dead Space fans are hungry for more Necromorph action and we're thrilled that they don't have to wait until January to get their fix. Dead Space Ignition is a great way to jump back into the Dead Space universe while the Visceral development team completes the final stages of Dead Space 2," said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer, Dead Space franchise. "Dead Space Ignition will show fans what happens in the hours leading up to the beginning of Dead Space 2 with gameplay that is fast-paced and accessible. It's a fun way to dig deeper into the fiction, while allowing core fans to give Isaac Clarke an edge in Dead Space 2."

Dead Space 2 will be avaliable in Australia January 27, 2011.

I actually really like the idea of these prologues. Dead Rising 2's was pretty great, cost a lot less than most lesser-quality arcade games (they can afford to because they're still selling a full priced game with the same tech) and it gives you a good idea of what to expect from the full game.

I suppose they'd sell more copies, probably get more pre-orders because of this.

I alsoooo think it's better than usual DLC because;
a) It comes out before the game - not months after when you no longer care about it
b) has more narrative value than most of the other shit out there that comes out months later and fits randomly in the middle of the game somewhere. Like, they can actually give it a story.

Overall it's just a good idea (doubly so for single player games).

Yup, sounds like a good idea, and gets you back in the mood for the sequel.. $8.45 is pretty cheap to download it..

Yeah, I see more ppl buying it out right than pre-ordering just for it.

Not sure if I'll geet right into DS2, the first was a great game, but I'm not in the mood to be scared out of my mind these days.....strange.

I never was, I hate scary movies and really can't watch em. Games that get pretty exceptional scores usually get me to play them though.

Resident Evil 4, for example. I was quaking in my boots every time I played that game. So scary. Finished it like 3 times though, absolutely amazing. Still havent finished Dead Space, couldn't play it for more than an hour or half at a time, but I did love it

Oh yeah im totally pre-ordering dead space 2 i love this game.
Horror games are one of my favourite genre of games, and dead space is the only game currently that can scare me
Shame they said they were reducing the scare factor of the game because people were complaining because it was "too scary"

I don't think the first was "too scary", I really enjoyed it my first time through - I'm just not interested in survival shooters atm.

I went to play it the other night. Finished the 'obliteration imminent' chapter, started the next one, where I have to shut down the biosphere shit or whatever and got too scared. I can't handle it for more than half an hour at a time!

lol yeah i love how scary it is, its insanely hard to find good games these days which scare you, so i honestly hope Dead Space 2 stays just as scary, and they were only saying that they're toning the scare factor down just to calm people down.

Ive been watching trailers for it there was a 15 minute trailer on IGN which showed a fair bit of gameplay, like another one of the new monsters, other then that small little white dude lol
The weapons look so fun, totally upgrading the javelin gun, cause pining Necro's to the wall will be fun as xP
Also! Isaac now has a voice O.O his not just gonna grunt when hit or something, he actually talks in dialogue o.o they said his not gonna be one of those really talkative people that you want to shut up either
