Dev Kits For Revolution On The Loose
Wii
26th February 2006, 1:25pm

Studios working on Revolution games say that the system will be roughly twice as beefy as a Gamecube. While some were initially concerned about the lack of horsepower in the kits, concerns apparently faded when they got their hands on the new controller.
Since the system is similar in architecture to the Gamecube's, developers have reported that it will be easy to develop more, and the kits will be cheap to get a hold of. Those companies familiar with this generation's console will apparently get their next-gen titles out quickly. The kits are apparently around US$2000, which is significantly (as in, thousands of dollars) cheaper than kits for the Xbox 360, PS3 and even PSP. The release of the SDKs has been in waves. The first kits were Gamecubes with a wired Revolution controller. The second batch had a few internal adjustments, while the third series featured a good boost in power. The latest batch had Revolution hardware inside, and the wireless controller. The bigger developers expecting to have playable demos at E3 2006 will be getting a further-revised set soon. The final kits are expected to be finished in June.
According to developers, the hardware suggests a price under US$200 (AUD$270), and even as low as US$150 (roughly $200). Stay tuned to E3 for the final reveal.
