E3 2004: Nintendo DS

Released at Nintendo's Press Conference has seen the unveiling of the Nintendo DS short for 'Developers' System'. Featuring a touch screen, voice recognition, wireless chat, and not forget to mention dual screens, it will be out in North America and Japan, before the end of the year with Europe to follow early 2005. With two screens available gaming will take a new turn will offer multiple perspectives on the game at once. Touch screen feature will help moving and navigating, with voice recognition being used to tell the game what they want it to do. Using chat software DS owners will be able to transmit text messages, handwriting and drawings to one another, with the wireless function to link up with other players.

Now for the tech specs. For a small looking machine it offers two processors, 3D capabilities on both screens, 16 channel sound and a rechargeable battery(Phew). To media bays are available on the DS with the game catridges storing up to a gigabit of information. The second port will be used for compatibility with GBA games as well be used for future market accessories.

Developers have taken to it like a duck to water with more than 100 companies worldwide receiving development kits and are planning games for the Nintendo DS. Games that are currently in development include Super Mario, Metroid game, WarioWare and PictoChat (sending of text and picture messages). A few third party titles include Spider Man 2, Rayman game, SpongeBob SquarePants, Bomberman game, Need for Speed and the ultra of games Pac-Man. So there you have it the Nintendo DS, with a few screens to go along.
