E3 2004: PSP Details

At the Sony Press Conference earlier on today, further details emerged about the PSP, Sonys handheld video game system. PSP will be able to play games in 3D-CG with high quality full motion picture similar to the quality of the PS2. PSP is indeed portable and is expected to be launched in Japan end of 2004 and then making its way to North America and Europe in spring 2005.
PSP will be black, featuring a 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD that can display 16.77 million colors with a 480 x272 resolution. The screen is centered in the ergonomic design detailed with a high quality finish(See Photos). It will weigh a light 260g and comes equip with built in stereo speakers, headphone connector, brightness control and sound mode selection. Keys and controls will look familar to those found on PS and PS2 controllers.
PSP also features a USB 2.0 port and is capable of 802.11b (wi-fi) wireless LAN allowing connectivity to varios devices. The disc or the Universal Media Disc(UMD) will be able to store up to 1.8GB of digital data. Content such as music video clips, movies and sports programs can be provided on UMD, which will feature a unique disc id and a 128bit AES encryption. PSP has a PSP CPU that runs approximately 333MHz with main memory 32MB and embedded DRAM 4MB. Already a large range of developers have signed up with a the list being available on Gamebiz
