E3 2005: Revolution Details
Gamecube
17th May 2005, 11:58pm
More Revolution info has been revealed, including a tiny pic of the system. It has a sleek, black design and a front blue light. Head to our forums for more info. The Revolution will be "two-to-three times more powerful than GameCube," according to Nintendo - reconfirming their stance that graphics won't be everything this generation. The Xbox 360 is reportedly 13-15 times more powerful than the first, and the PS3 is about 35 times more powerful than the PlayStation 2. Nintendo, however, judges on textured polygons with anti-alising, bump mapping, dynamic lighting etc., while Microsoft and Sony are quoting raw processing power; they could actually be quite similar.
We've also discovered that using Revolution's new Wi-Fi connection, gamers would be able to go online to a free gamer-matching service. Interestingly, Revolution users will be able to download classic and new Nintendo games over the Internet. They gave as examples Donkey Kong and Super Mario Sunshine (from the Gamecube, no less), which suggests that you could have access to the entire Nintendo library.
