First Australian Wii Price Drop (to $299.95)
Wii

It has taken a couple of years, but the first ever official Australian price reduction for the Wii is now here. The price of the console drops from a standard RRP of $399.95 to $299.95. It takes place from tomorrow.
This should help make things more competitive against the PS3 and Xbox 360, which have received a few price reductions since launch.
Reader Comments:

GAME's deals are $289 for the Wii + either TMNT Smash Up or Ben 10 Vilgax
and $328 for that same deal + 2 years warranty.
Good to see it's getting closer to the price of what it's worth.

Indeed. Now the Wii actually looks like decent value compared to the 360. I wonder how much the Wii sales will increase? 100% maybe? I wonder how/if Microsoft will react?
I think Microsoft is likely more concerned with how they're going to compete with Sony right now.
PS3 has had "a few" price drops - it's less than half the price it was at launch!
As for Microsoft, I don't think they will react - the price drop is a reaction on Nintendos behalf due to Natale.
No, it's a reaction on their behalf to dwindling sales. Honestly, Natal is hardly a worry.

Yeah I don't think it has anything to do with Natal. I would say it has more to do with the 360s pretty much equal pricepoint (well, not anymore). And, as shady said, sales. They will sell a lot more at 300, especially with the pretty black console.
All of the consoles must be reaching saturation though here in Australia surely?? Those that are going to buy one have probably bought one. Bringing the price right down to pull in non-gamers, and releasing accessories that supposedly increase the appeal is probably the only thing that is going to increase sales right now.
