Dr. Michael Macedonia – U.S. Army
Dr. Michael Macedonia is the Chief Technology Officer for the US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEOSTRI, formerly known as STRICOM). A graduate of West Point, Macedonia served as an infantry officer in a variety of command and staff positions in the United States and overseas assignments including Germany and the Middle East. He also served as a project manager for computer and electronic warfare systems. Following his military service, Macedonia became the Vice-president of the Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics, Inc. (CRCG) in Providence, Rhode Island. Macedonia then joined the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia as a Research Staff Member for Modeling and Simulation. He later became a senior scientist at Georgia Tech Research Institute. Macedonia has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Telecommunications. He is a contributing editor and on the editorial board of IEEE Computer. He is also a contributing editor to IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications and an executive member of the Technical Committee for Visualization and Computer Graphics. He was the 2002 chair of the IEEE VR Conference.
Jim Korris – Creative Director, Institute for Creative Technologies
One of its first employees, Jim began his work with the Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) with its creation in August 1999. Leveraging capabilities of the filmed-entertainment industry, the computer game business and USC’s engineering, social science and cinema arts resources, the Institute is focusing on graphics, sound, character, story and artificial intelligence research. Jim undertook his assignment at ICT as a natural outgrowth of his work as Executive Director of USC’s Entertainment Technology Center (http://www.etcenter.org). A sponsored, organized research unit of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema Television, the Center is committed to fostering the development of technology related to the production and distribution of entertainment content. The Center’s current agenda focuses on digital cinema, virtual stage and entertainment on demand. Jim came to the Center after a career in studio production, producing and writing. Since May, 1998, he has been producing via korris.film, and writing on assignment. His current development/production slate includes The Killing Yard, starring Alan Alda, a fact-based film centered on the trials following the Attica prison uprising, for Showtime and Paramount. Additionally, Jim is in active development on a number of pay-TV and network projects. Recent work includes episodic television assignments (including Warner TV’s la Femme Nikita) and the blacklist drama Waldorf. He is a member of the writers’ branch of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Writers Guild of America, the Writers Guild of Canada and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. He held several creative executive positions at Universal Television and served as a staff producer for Ron Howard’s Imagine Films. Jim’s undergraduate degree in Economics is from Yale University; he was awarded an M.B.A. with distinction at the Harvard Business School.
Josh Resnick – President, Pandemic Studios
Josh Resnick, 35, is president and co-founder of Pandemic Studios, LLC. Over the past 4 years, Josh and his partner, Andrew Goldman, have built Pandemic into a company of nearly 100 highly skilled programmers, designers, and artists working on a number of high-profile titles for consoles and PCs at their offices in California and Australia. Before founding Pandemic, Josh spent four years at Activision, Inc., serving as the Producer on the 1995 mega-hit Mechwarrior 2, which sold over 1 million copies worldwide, and as Director of 1997’s popular RTS game, Dark Reign. Josh also headed up the Strategy division of Activision’s internal studio, which produced several acclaimed titles including Computer Gaming World’s 1998 Strategy Game of the Year, Battlezone. Josh earned his M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1993, and his B.A. from Pomona College in 1989.
Andrew Goldman – CEO, Pandemic Studios
Andrew Goldman, 35, oversees day-to-day game development at Pandemic as its CEO. During his four-year stint at Activision, Andrew directed Spycraft, the award winning espionage adventure game based on the experiences of William Colby, former Director of the CIA, and Oleg Kalugin, former Major General of the KGB. A conversation about espionage and the space race at Colby’s Georgetown breakfast table provided the basis for Andrew’s next title, Battlezone. Battlezone’s revolutionary game play won CGW’s Action Game of the Year honor and typically earns a slot in the top 50 games of all time in industry and consumer polls. Prior to Activision, Andrew worked in the games and education department of Prodigy, creating their Learning Adventure and National Geographic product offerings. Andrew earned a masters degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University in 1993, and his B.A. from Brown University in 1990.
