Is it time for a new PSP? Sony's portable did well enough, but never really gained traction with a wider market. There were two revisions of the system that improved its screen and weight, among other things, but perhaps it is time to wipe the slate clean and introduce a new one. That's what the Internet is whispering, at least.

1UP has the scoop, including a potential name - the PSP Go! Everyone seems convinced that it will be announced at E3, but what will it include? Word has it that the screen will slide up to reveal inputs, but whether that includes a second thumbstick is anyone's guess. UMD will definitely be getting the flick, though - it was a failed format from the start - to be replaced by inbuilt memory of 8-16GBs, depending on the SKU.

It seems like digital distribution is going to be the way of the future for portables, based on the success of the iPhone, and to a lesser extent, the DSi, but what happens to all the UMDs you've accrued with the first model? Apparently there'll be 100 classic titles available for download, but surely Sony would be kind enough to let you get the ones you already own on disc for free?

Chime in below on what you think should be included, and whether it's the right time for an update to the platform.

I wouldn't count on it.

I've never been a hand-held fan, but I doesn't strike me that it's a great time, given the econemy, to release a new console. Then again, it may be a great time to corner the peopel who want gaming, but don't want to fork over $400 for a console.

Ooh, interesting. I love the PSP Slim that David has (it sits so nicely in my hands) but it depends on the features and the games that are released on the handheld as to whether I'd get the second installation.

Motion sensing like in the iPhone/iPod Touch would be awesome though.

I think the plan is that they'll have kiosks in store where you can transfer a disc game to a card or something.
