Kaplan Speaks
26th February 2006, 2:02pm
Nintendo vice president of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan was recently interviewed by Next Generation regarding their home consoles.Kaplan confirmed that Revolution titles would be playable on the E3 2006 show floor. She claimed that, just like the DS, you have to try it to understand it: "At this show and beyond, it's about people getting a hands-on experience. If you play Revolution for yourself and experience the software, it's much better than me telling you about what our message is all about. It's kinda like your own rollercoaster ride. It's always going to be different for everyone."
Kaplan believes that the gaming press will eventually be won over by the system. Right now, they're apparently comparing apples to apples, when Revolution is in fact an orange, if you catch her drift. Additionally, she reflected that trying to predict a market share for their system is pointless, as the point of the console is to expand the market itself. Thus, any percentage quote would be meaningless.
In regards to the Gamecube's position in the marketplace, Kaplan pointed out the system's respectable performance in the holiday period of 2005. "GameCube's reputation suffers much more than its game sales do. Not that it is the leader of the pack, but it outsold 360 at launch and during the holiday period, and it outsold Xbox."
