Microsoft Announces the $25,000 XSN Sports World Championship

Think you can steady your nerves to hit a game-deciding free throw with no time left on the clock? How about smash a cross-court backhand winner in the final set of a championship tennis match? Welcome to the XSN Sports World Championship, the most competitive and intense online sports tournament in the history of console video games.

The XSN Sports World Championship will be held Feb. 11–12, 2004 in Los Angeles. Eight participants, with one guest each, will be flown to that city to compete for a $25,000 grand prize and the bragging rights that come with the title of XSN Sports World Champion.

To make it to Los Angeles, XSN Sports gamers must register for and win an online feeder tournament that will be held for each of the six XSN Sports game titles: “NFL Fever 2004,” “NHL Rivals 2004,” “Amped® 2,” “Top Spin™,” “NBA Inside Drive 2004” and “Links® 2004.” Two at-large gamers will be invited to round out the competition. The feeder tournaments, broken into two official rounds per week, will begin Dec. 29 and continue through Jan. 27, 2004. Feeder tournament winners will collect a $1,000 check and trophy, and earn a free trip to Los Angeles to compete for the overall title.

“Amped 2” Championship Series

Microsoft, Xbox Live and XSN Sports will crown the ultimate sports gamer in all six of the titles the XSN Sports World Champion.
