Microsoft Drops Price on Xbox 360 HD-DVD Addon
Xbox 360

In an attempt to lift sales, Microsoft has officially dropped the price of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD addon to $US129.99, down from $US179.99. The price will take effect immediately across Australia, US, Canada, and New Zealand. The 5 free HD-DVD offer stays for those that have it, although this is not available in Australia.
At an RRP of $129.95AUD, this is definitely the cheapest way to experience true high definition video.
Sliced Comments: While the price drop is nice, it's almost a case of "too late" for the HD-DVD format, which many people have already written off due to Warner Bros recent withdrawal of support. However, the price is quite attractive if you can find enough HD-DVD movies to make it worthwhile.

How much do HD DVDs cost these days?
With the 5 free ones it could be worth it, though I'll stick to my stance of sitting firmly on the fence till it's reasonably priced.
I don't believe the 5 free HD-DVD offer is available in Australia... so there goes that idea..
hd-dvd's and blu-ray dvd's are like $40-$50 for new releases - usually $20 more than the dvd version of the movie
which is bullshit
This is true. Supply, demand, and getting what they can out of the consumer is the main reason I'd say why the high-def formats are so expensive. I guess they figure as well, if you can afford $2k+ for a HDTV, you might be prepared to pay more for the discs.
Things with DVD were pretty expensive to start with, $35 for a DVD, $1000 for a player.. but things changed over time. Now it's not uncommon to get a fairly new release for $25, some classics for under $20.
This format war sucks and will continue to suck and as soon as it dies out the ass the better.
