Ubisoft today announced a brand new Star Wars game, the first one developed exclusively for the PSP and the DS. Going by the name of 'Star Wars: Lethal Alliance', the game pits you in between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, controlling the new character Twi'lek Rianna Saren and her security droid Zeeo. Basic details of the story suggest that Twi'lek and her companion are fighting on the side of the Rebels in order to uncover the secrets behind the Empire's deadly Death Star.

Lethal Alliance brings with it a form of dual character gameplay: you take control of both characters in order to proceed. We can assume that there will be a variety of puzzles that require the use of both characters intelligently. You can also expect to see the usual slew of Star Wars enemies and locales, as well as memorable characters such as Darth Vadar, Princess Leia and Boba Fett, amongst others.

The game also features multiplayer components designed to take advantage of the hardware. Collaborative gameplay is one such component that has been hinted at, with more to be announced at a later date.

Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft had this to say: 'Ubisoft is honored to announce this exciting and innovative Star Wars game, the first original game in the legendary franchise built to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of both the PSP system and the DS. We have worked closely with LucasArts to create a game that further develops the Star Wars universe, and unveils some of the mysteries that have kept millions of fans enthralled for decades.'

At the moment, we have a tentative release date of sometime in December this year.
