Final Fantasy 13 Will Be HD on Xbox 360 After All
Xbox 360, PS3

UPDATE: Our staff member RJ today confirmed at a Final Fantasy XIII event that the two games will be identical. Seems like it was just rumours that got out of hand, or perhaps some anti-360 bias from Square-Enix or PS3 fans.
Reports have seemingly confirmed that next week's huge RPG release Final Fantasy XIII will not be high definition on Xbox 360 and will instead clock in at a measly 576p due to space limitations of the three DVDs the game will come on.
Playstation 3 fans shall enjoy the game in full high definition on blu-ray, but Xbox 360 gamers have been left in the dark, with no information being released from the developers of the differences between the two versions.
If you've got both consoles, now might be a good idea to check which console is on your pre-order receipt.
Reader Comments:
That's something to look in to. I'll see if I can find anything out at the event tomorrow.
Come on, there is no way this is true, as sales would dive.. Just a stupid rumour spread by sony fanbois to buy the ps3 version.. good work
IIRC 3 dvds = similar space to a Blu-Ray.
I mean, the devs would have to work for IW to think releasing a non-HD version would be anything but a complete bomb.
They might have to compress some of the videos some more, and maybe some textures, but they don't need to chop it down to 576p
Apparently a pirated version has been leaked onto the net today, so somebody will know for sure.

That's a bit weird. If it's true, I'll be getting it on the PS3... maybe that's the point of the rumour? I guess it tips the bias a bit further in their favour. That said, it may be true. I mean, maybe they've just done a shit job porting it over in regards to compression or whatever.

We'll find out next week. Wikipedia is stating 576p, I know you can't trust the site, but you'd think one of their nazi moderators wouldn't be a PS3 fanboy.
It all started because some site said how much smaller the 360 version was than the PS3 version.. Some in turn jumped to the conclusion that it therefore must only be 576p. That's what I can gather anyhow.
p.s. Wikipedia only says the cut scenes are 576p, which is still a maybe.
I was told they are identical. And there's no reason why the game would run in a lower resolution to save space. That's just stupid. The biggest problem would be the textures (which can't be scaled), not the models (which can).
Textures and sound are going to be compressed in the 360 version. I've seen comparisons between the two and the difference is not noticeable unless you smoosh your eyes up against the screen.

Was going to update the article tonight but someone beat me to it. I'm holding a 360 LE right now and it says on the back HDTV 720p/1080i/1080p, same as the PS3 version. What seemed legitimate at the Xbox.com forums turned out false, my apologies =)
Lots of sites carried the news, but it was from only one source.
Textures might be lower quality.. I'll probably get the ps3 version if I am getting it anyhow, less disc swapping.
Comparisons.. The 360 is upscaled 576p to 720p, but at the end of the day, you'd be splitting hairs to see a noticeable difference for the gameplay sections. Videos look worse.

Apparently according to the third page of that article you linked, when there is fast animation there's a noticeable difference, and some textures are even missing or not fully loaded on the 360.
Glad I didn't change BACK my pre-order when I saw it was in 'HD'.
yeah, forums shitted out before I could edit it.. gameplay looks similar, but video is worse during motion sections. Really it's about the gameplay isn't it?
Oh well, they're the ones that'll take the hit on 360 version if people buy the ps3 version.. will teach them not to fuck up the conversion next time eh.
