Sony has confirmed that the 80GB hard drive version of the Playstation 3 will be priced at AUD$699, and will go on sale on the 27th August. Other than the hard drive, the new package will also ship by default with the Dual Shock 3 Controller. Otherwise, there are no other major changes.

Sliced Comments: 40GB more for the same price is nothing to get too excited by, seeing as the PS3 sells here as one of most expensive in the world. However, for the same price, the extra space may be useful, especially if the PVR add-on makes it here next year. Finally including the Dual Shock 3 controller over the old Sixaxis will be welcomed by many.

Agreed again, I love the jolt in a rumble controller when firing a weapon, just adds so much to the game even on an unconscious level, it just adds immersion.

I'm not terribly fussed with dual shock, I've never understood the need for people to have a controller that vibrates. When playing PS2 I often found myself putting the controller on the floor to bounce around in cut scenes with vibration as I found it annoying. Although, that being said, I do like a vibrating controller when I play racing games, but that's it.

Dave and I have 2 sixaxis controllers and 1 dual shock (which I haven't used yet... I have a sixaxis sitting on my desk) and I haven't felt compelled to use it (although it's white so that makes it appealing ).

I defiantly prefer the controller to vibrate, it helps the immersion.

$600 is a good price.. you can update the hard drive to whatever size you like anyhow in yours for very little.

That's true. As for the Dual Shock, I sold my sixaxis controllers and used the money to help pay for two Dual Shocks to replace them.

The announcement that they were set to announce a 80gb version was known 3-4 weeks ago. Pricing wasn't confirmed, but was suspected to be the same or cheaper

Teach me for not doing research, I simply assumed it had been out so long they would be workin on their PS4 already. Which I *DID* research and found it wasn't projected till atleast late 2010......Still, I got my PS3 for $600, I doubt I could have got the new pack for that and the HD space would have gone un-used anyway.

Ofcourse they release a better console 2 weeks after I buy mine >

Not really interested in the extra HD space but the Rumble controller would have been nice......

Not sure if the extras really will encourage more people to buy. They're nice if you were to buy one anyhow at that price, but otherwise, still needs a $100-$150 price drop. 360 has the better games library, and the console is a lot cheaper.

Dual Shock 3 is only an extra $20 RRP, but of course people would rather have a controller that can rumble.
