Nintendo And Bandai Deny Buyout
25th October 2003, 9:05am
Both Nintendo and Bandai have issued statements stating that a buyout of Bandai by Nintendo is not on the cards.
Speculation of the buyout arose when Nintendo purchased 2.7 per cent shareholding in Bandai, in which many Japanese Business press believed would lead to a buyout of Bandai by Nintendo.
Bandai president Takeo Takasu stated that "Nintendo's purchase was not on a premise of any merger or equity tie-up." Whilst a Nintendo spokesperson went on to say that "we don't have any intention of acquiring Bandai," although "if some Bandai shareholders ask us to buy additional share, we would consider the offer."
