Nintendo Australia Confirms No Wii Price Drop
Wii
28th September 2009, 5:35pm

Tough luck, folks. A representative of Nintendo Australia has responded to our enquiry about a price drop for the Wii with the following comment:
"Nintendo Australia advise that there are currently no plans to reduce the price of Wii in Australia. However we want to ensure that we provide continued great value oriented product to our consumers so we will be implementing a range of software bundles through to Christmas that will appeal to everyone."
This indicates that they'll be following the lead of their European counterparts and packing in games with the console rather than decreasing the system's price overall. Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. seem like the only obvious choices, but Wii Sports Resort could get a guernsey too.

It's still fairly cheap though.. would imagine a lot of people must already have them though

Considering you can get a 360 for less and a PS3 costs only $100 extra, I wouldn't exactly call the Wii "cheap".

Should be a competitive christmas unlike last year which was just wii wii wii wii

Translation: Aussies will continue to buy our product no matter what we charge, but hey - if you're still upset, please look through our list of ways you can give us more money.

^ Pretty much. We're still being made to pay through the nose for the Wii, even though the price has been reduced everywhere else. It wasn't so bad at launch, but it's getting ridiculous.
Anything under $500 is pretty affordable for most families.. and people are continuing to buy them (as a really cool dust ornament), so they probably see no need to lower their profits down here if they don't have to.
