Nintendo Lends Its Characters Out Some More

DS

2nd February 2005, 10:51am
Following the trend of outsourcing its franchises, Nintendo has announced a deal with THQ. This means that THQ can use their IP in their games. Therefore, THQ (and Rareware?) can produce a game in a franchsie (think Capcom and Zelda) or just use a character in another title. Previous examples of where Nintendo has leant out its characters include Soul Calibur 2, which featured Link, as well as the upcoming Fight Night 2, DDR with Mario and NBA Street 2. The deal only applies to the Nintendo DS, though.

This gives THQ "the right to use certain of Nintendo's intellectual property to develop, publish and distribute video games for the Nintendo DS handheld platform until Jan 25, 2008 in all countries in the Western Hemisphere in accordance with the terms of the agreement." What can we expect? Who knows? But Nintendo can still refuse to distribute a game if the quality isn't there.
