Numbers Short at Japanese Playstation 3 Launch

Reports from Japan indicate there has been a heavy shortage of Playstation 3 consoles during its launch there over the weekend. Avid gamers had been queuing for up to a week to make sure they were able to get their hands on a console. Those who weren't out the front of the line missed out. Certain stores only had 20 consoles on hand, with up to 200 people waiting in line for those units.

Later in the weekend period, some stores had to have a 'lucky-dip' raffle system method for customers to secure the console, meaning that many more went home empty handed. As to be expected, the lack of consoles has pushed the price for consoles up to absurd levels on Yahoo Auctions Japan, Japan's most popular auction site.

Sony expects to ship 100,000 units each week over the next 4 weeks leading up to the Christmas period.

Sliced Gaming: No real surprise, but no wonder the console has been delayed here in Australia. Sony appears to be having problems with meeting the production requirements, or at least not keen on producing too much supply, and this has been obvious for a while now.
