You play on either the American or Japanese forces as they carry out massive sea and land battles in the Pacific. The game spans between 1940 and 1948 and as the war progresses, new technology and gameplay evolves.
There is both a strategic overview mode, and the option to dive down into flight simulation mode for a more hands-on control. There is also the option to develop your own units and campaigns, and create your own mods for the game.
For those who are after a highly detailed simulator, Pacific Storm looks like it offers a lot of fine details. The game will be available in late August 2006 here in Australia for a budget price
