PS3 Platinum Range On the Way
PS3

Sony are bringing the PS3 Platinum range to Australia, so selected games have now had their price reduced to $49.95. These games are:
* Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
* Motorstorm
* Heavenly Sword
It's definitely a good time to pick up any of these games if you've been thinking about it, and the time when you'll be able to buy the games (in their original covers) is limited. Once stock has been cleared, the Platinum range will be brought in, and consumers will have to put up with these new platinum covers, which not all gamers may find tasteful.

If you havn't been able to pick up these games for under $50 by now then you don't know how to shop =)
Yeah, hopefully this means JB will sell them at like $29 or something. Then I might have another look at Uncharted. Though I hope Warhawk joins the range soon, been vaguely interested in that too, so if it dropped to about $30 i'd pick it up.
No such luck Nick, JB are confirmed to be selling all of the listed games for $50.
lol worst covers

lol worst covers
Yeah they are pretty horrific. Whats with the yellow?
Resistance: Fall of Man is a horrible game!
Fair enough it was a release title, but I picked it up the other day for a quick crack and it was among the worst FPS I've played. Horrible checkpoints locations, poor AI, poor weaponry - and the MP is unbelieveably basic.
How this title is platinum is beyond me.

It was the best FPS that Sony had to offer when the PS3 launched.
Platinum = old and sold a lot, not necessarily good.
You forgot something:
Platinum = old and sold a lot but doesn't sell anymore, not necessarily good.
It took ages for the GTA games to go platinum because people kept buying them, same with GT.
I'm surprised COD4 hasn't gone platinum, it must have sold a huge number of copies.
Well it's like what RJ said, it sold stacks and no doubt is still selling, so why cut their profits by lowering the price?

No-one's gonna buy Resistance or Motorstorm with sequels on the way, and I think most of the people who wanted Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank would have bought it by now.

Heavenly Sword is my next title once I settle my car rego, recieve my tax return etc.
At least the covers aren't completely hideous like their PS2 counterparts... *shudders*

Now, I've got nothing against yellow, but I do have a problem with Ugly.
Stick with Silver, Sony, you silly munchkins.
I don't mind the yellow. Yes silver or black would have been a better option, but I don't think it looks that bad.
I agree though with the general sentiment, why fuck with the cover at all?! just stick an extra emblem on it, and that's it! idiots

Highlighted colors attract attention = more ppl notice the game = more ppl read the cover = more ppl buy the game ===== more ppl return the game and demand their money back =\
lolz, yeah - I did business in uni for a while and they seriously do studies on which colors attract customers and how best to arrange wording etc to optimise sales.
I can't believe you guys think the PS2 one is better. C'mon, crappy '3D' metal finish with rounded edges? Vertical stripes as the background? Invasive red button with Platinum on it? Greatly minimised original cover art? Everything about that cover is wrong (it makes me think of the ChemWatch MSDS website... *shudder* (I'll upload a screenshot at uni)).
I don't think the PS3 version is great, but the design is still much better. For one they made it simpler, which makes it look neater and more professional. Secondly, the yellow is less invasive (despite being a bolder colour) and thirdly, the cover art isn't as reduced as in the PS2 design.
You guys need to have your eyes checked!
I think the PSX platinum cover designs were the best. They just had a silver band.
don't really care what they look like.........price is what i am interested in..........the second hand market will have to drop there prices too......
The Platinum range is selling for $40 each at Toys 'R Us right now, maked down from the full price.
Saw Heavenly Sword in EB for $50 - was very tempted to pick it up....then I remembered by Car Rego is due, and had to pass *sigh*
Still, I will go slap the manager when I *DO* buy it and demand he sell it for $40 lol
