PSP Go Priced At $449 In Australia
PS3, PSP

No, really. Hot on the heels of Sony announcing that the PS3 will now be retailing at $499 in Australia, they've quietly announced that the PSP Go will have an RRP of $449 when it launches in October. For those that are mathematically challenged, that's just $50 less than the console. The PSP-3000 can be currently found for $239 online, while some stores have already listed the PS3 Slim at $479. Sure, you get a free download of GT with your console, but you're paying for that bandwidth too.
It's going to be difficult for Sony to convince the market in this economic climate that the Go, at almost twice the price of the existing PSP, is a reasonable buy. If they slash downloadable game prices by twenty dollars to, say, $39, you'd still have to buy about ten games on the service to make that money back. Adam, our Sony guy, has jokingly suggested that this is part of Sony's strategy for selling more PS3s - it looks like awesome value compared to the PSP Go.
Still, a year or two ago you were paying $1000 for a PS3, and for the same amount you'll now be able to get both (and a game). What are your thoughts? Too expensive? Too cheap? Just right? Chime in, Goldilocks.
Reader Comments:

what genius decided the pricing on that? its pretty much killing the pspgo before its even gone to sale, who would buy a pspgo when for 50$ more you can get a ps3?
Way too $$$
The PSP really has struggled to make traction here in Australia, and now they want to make it *more* expensive.. +1 for Pass

If they think they can overshadow this announcement with the $499 PS3 Slim they are mistaken!
