Revolution Info Including Possible Release

Gamecube

In an obvious effort to draw attention away from the Xbox 360, Nintendo has revealed some delicious Revolution info. Perrin Kaplan of Nintendo America has described the console as "very, very sleek." It will apparently be tiny, and will stand horizontally. It is supposedly no wider than 3 DVD cases stacked on top each other, or slightly more than an inch (2.5cm). It's comparable in size to a Mac Mini computer.

Going against its traditions of using unique types of media, the publisher with Revolution is opting for a more standardized medium - DVDs. This could mean HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, or sadly, but maybe not unpredictably, the original DVD. It appears that DVD playback will be available - the Gamecube was panned for omitting it. Along with the recently announced Wi-Fi connections and backwards compatibility, we've also heard that the Revolution's controller will be completely wireless - something we all expected. Additionally, the Revolution's release may have been revealed. Memory maker MoSys Inc. stated that it would once again be supplying an embedded 1T-SRAM solution for Nintendo's forthcoming console, codenamed Revolution. They commented:

"We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006."
