Nintendo Japan suprises everyone by announcing some new details of the SD Adapter for the Nintendo GameCube

In a recent site update, Nintendo Japan announced new details of a SD Adapter for the GameCube. The SD adapter is an adapter (who would have thought...) that will allow you to load postage-stamp sized Memory cards. The cards, titled SD Memory card, will allow you to store game saves, as well as giving gamers the opportunity to e-mail game data to friends, and download game updates from the Internet. The cards are manufactured by Panasonic and vary in size. I have seen cards as little as 16MB up to a whopping 256MB. Nintendo also stated that the first game to use this technology will be Animal Crossing e+, which will allow gamers to e-mail game information and in-game photos to friends on the Internet. The adapter is currently scheduled to arrive in Japan on the June 27. There are no known plans for a release in Australia.

Expect more details at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which runs from May 13 through to May 16.
