Grand Theft Auto III in the news yet again...

During a court case in August, two teen-age boys admitted they were "mimicking" Grand Theft Auto III when they stood upon a hill overlooking a highway with a rifle as they fired at trucks killing Canadian Aaron Hamel, 45, and wounding a female motorist and a passenger in Aaron Hamel's car. The boys claimed they were trying to hit the sides of passing-by Trucks.

On Monday a damage suit claim to the sum of $246 million was filed against Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc., Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., Wal-Mart Inc., which sold the game, the parents of the two boys involved, and the boys themselves.

The suit claims that the sued parties should have known the game would lead to "copycat violence". The suit seeks $200 million in punitive damages and $46 million in actual damages.

"The Company believes that the claims against it are without merit and are similar to lawsuits brought and uniformly dismissed by courts in other jurisdictions where the plaintiffs' sought to hold entertainment companies responsible for the violent behavior of individuals who used those company's products," Take-Two said in a statement.

Both Sony Computer Entertainment America and Wal-Mart Inc had no immediate comments.
