SOCOM: Confrontation First Look
PS3

For a game announced so long ago and originally due out November 2007, we didn't think we'd be posting a First Look article in the month of June 2008, but stranger things have happened.
With the game set for release in September, SOCOM: Confrontation promises to change the face of Sony PS3 Online gaming. If it's anywhere near as popular as it was on the Playstation 2, SOCOM: Confrontation should definitely be a game to look out for in three months time.
Confrontation will be the fifth game in the series (three on PS2, one on PSP), but it is being developed by Slant Six (best known for the PSP SOCOM game). A tactical shooter, the game will support up to 32 players. A whole array of new maps, and some favourites from previous games such as Crossroads, Frostfire and Desert Glory are expected.
Weapons will be customisable, and gamers will find a new way to kill your opponent in close quarters, with the use of a knife.
SOCOM: Confrontation will take full use of the Sixaxis controller, as well as the Dualshock 3. A new cover system will see gamers using the Sixaxis to tilt your way out of getting shot in the head.
Fans will be happy to see noticeable similarities with previous SOCOM games when it comes to the lobby, and ranked/unranked/custom games.
The game will also feature full character customisation capabilities including unique clothing.
A new over-the-shoulder camera angle will also be included in SOCOM: Confrontation, but fans will still be able to use the classic 3rd person view.
Clan support will be back and better than ever, as gamers can manage their clan members and schedule from SOCOM.com on their computers.
Last but not least, fans will enjoy victory dances which can be performed while standing over the corpse of your enemy. A SOCOM tradition.
SOCOM: Confrontation will be available both via the Playstation Store and in stores on Blu-ray disc format. Keep checking back at Sliced for all the latest on SOCOM: Confrontation, due Septemper 16th 2008 exclusively on Playstation 3.
