StarCraft II Split in III
PC

At BlizzCon 2008, Blizzard revealed that the single player campaign of StarCraft II was so large that they've decided to split it into three games, with each focusing on a different race. The games will be titled Terrans: Wings of Liberty, Zerg: Heart of the Swarm and Protos: Legacy of the Void. The story will continue throughout the three titles, which will be released in the order above.
Each version will contain the multiplayer component and is being treated as a separate game by Blizzard. No pricing or release date has been announced, but one would hope that the cost of each individual edition is lowered, given that the project is being split into three.

I am not particularly happy about this. If they are cheaper I spose it is not so bad but I really just want one game and I don't want to wait till 2011-12 to get it.
It's certainly an odd move - I mean, split it into 3 games yes, but release them as a package. Maybe Blizzard think that if they make people wait for each it will build suspense......I think it will only build frustration.

I think they are hoping it will get them more money.

If there's one game dev that doesn't need more money it would be the makers of WoW.
I see no logic behind this, except that maybe it will make it more annoying for pirates as they have to download 3 games that are 5-7gb each instead of one that is 8gb or so.
Each game would have the same basic programming, with an extra gig or two for the different content I think?

It is not about needing money. They just want it, as all businesses do.
I hope this isn't the start of a trend from Blizzard, they better not do this with Diablo III - split eacc chapter into different titles - that would be be mega lame!
I can't see how this is a good idea in any way. It reeks of Activision more than Blizzard.
