The second shipment of component cables for the Wii has apparently been pushed back yet again by Nintendo, after initial supplies run out early. This has been a disappointment for a lot of gamers, looking to get the best graphics quality on better-spec'ed TV's from their fresh new Wii console. Some players in desperation have resorted to working out the pin-out and slicing up their own cables to get proper component output on their TV.

Apparently the next shipment of cables have been pushed back until December 18th over in the US. This may well mean there is a shortage of the cables here when the console is released on December 7th.

Sliced Comments: For the uninitiated, a component video cable basically allows splitting of the colour signal from the console, direct to the TV. By separating the signals, there is no need for the TV to separate a single signal (composite cable) into these components later on; it is passed direct to the colour processing circuitry, resulting in a crisper and more vivid picture. This also allows the Wii to run in 480p (progressive) mode, rather than the less detailed 480i (interlaced) mode.
