Wii launched in the US

While the scenes for Friday's Playstation 3 launch had a few crazy incidents, the official launch of the Nintendo Wii in the US on midnight Sunday (a few hours ago their time) appeared to be a much more civil affair. The 4 hour New York event was staged by Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo America, and incorporated DJ's and demo units on the sidewalk to get gamers excited.
Queues were manageable at most locations, and were fairly orderly by most reports. Initial reports indicate there are quite limited numbers available at some stores, with some stores reportedly only having 10-30 units available. This has led to many not being able to source a unit at launch. We'll just have to see whether this will create supply issues over the longer term or not.
The Japanese receive their Wii on December 2nd. We'll keep you posted with what happens there as well.
