Xbox 360 Firmware Breaking 'Small Number' of Units
Xbox 360

Since we're on the topic of software screwing up consoles, it's about time the Xbox 360 got some loving. A somewhat recent Xbox 360 firmware update has turned "a very small number" of consoles into paperweights effectively, losing the ability to read discs.
"Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs," said Microsoft. "This issue manifests itself a as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console."
Microsoft are also dishing out a year's free Xbox Live access along with the console replacement, which is nice. Any owner affected that hasn't been contacted should probably contact Microsoft directly.
