Yamauchi Steps Down

We found out today that former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi will step down from his spot on the board of directors this June. He made the decision himself because of his age (now 77) as well as strength, and because he'd been on the board three years already.

Yamauchi became president in 1949, and made the transition from card-maker to the videogames giant Nintendo is today occur. He handed over the position to Satoru Iwata in 2002. When offered a retirement package from the company - estimated to contain between 10 and 15 million dollars - he declined, suggesting that it should be put back into the company he loved.

Although Nintendo has been criticised of late of not being with the times, Yamauchi was still an amazing man. We salute you.
