Introduction

Wanted: Weapons Of Fate, developed by GRIN, is a tie-in game for the movie Wanted. Rather than being based on the movie itself however, the game serves as a direct continuation of the movie’s story, acting as a sequel of sorts. The game is a third person shooter which incorporates many elements of the movie, such as the ability to curve bullets, and is available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Gameplay

The game is split up into 9 acts, with the story beginning 5 hours after the events of the movie. Players assume the role of Wesley Gibson, son of a legendary assassin who was betrayed by the people he worked for, and as a result killed by Wesley (who believed him to be his father’s killer). Wesley was part of a fraternity of assassins who travel the world to find their marks, but has now turned against them after learning the truth from his dying father. Wesley is now on a mission to avenge his parents, and pay the fraternity back in kind. As such, the game documents his travels as he closes in on the full truth, gaining new skills along the way, and eventually becoming a great assassin just like his father.

For the most part Wanted: Weapons Of Fate is your average third person shooter. You run, you use cover, you shoot, and you kill. However, the game differs from others in the genre in three ways. First of all, Wesley’s weapon capacity is realistic, and faithful to the movie. He’s not going to be carrying around an entire arsenal of guns during the game; he’s armed solely with his trusty pistol. As such, weapon variety is pretty much non-existent, other than machine pistols obtained towards the end of the game, that’s it. This isn’t such a bad thing however, as it keeps the focus on simply taking down enemies quickly instead of choosing which weapon to do the deed with. Pistols are also great for getting headshots, which is something that you’ll want to make use of. The game sets a pretty fast pace, so what weapon you’re using is a concern that gets swept away by the large amount of action, and enemies.

Secondly, the pistols in Wanted give players more options than your average gun. As an assassin, players have access to two special skills, bullet curving and exploding rounds. Both of these will prove to be indispensable tools as the game goes on. Bullet curving allows players to take out enemies who are hiding behind cover by making their bullet arc through the air, going around the cover and hitting their helpless target. The angle of the bullet is fully adjustable by the player, with the correct positioning being an important factor in guaranteeing a hit. Exploding rounds are similar to curving bullets in that they can hit enemies behind cover, but when they do hit, they detonate and are able to take out multiple enemies. These skills do come at a price though, part ...
