8 The Buzz series has been blessing the PlayStation consoles for many years now, and with so many titles released on PS2, it's been nice to not see the PlayStation 3 get instantly barraged with too much shovelware. Buzz! Quiz World is the second Buzz title for the PS3, and with it comes all new gameplay modes and characters, while removing other modes and characters entirely. Does this game live up to the Buzz series' reputation? Much like every question in the game, we'll let you decide… but hurry!
Gameplay
For those unfamiliar with Buzz games, you take control of a buzzer, and let the host of the game (who is conveniently named Buzz) guide you through the menus and each and every question throughout your trivia nights. He's a lot more vibrant in Quiz World than he was in Quiz TV and it makes the whole game feel a lot more like an awesome quiz show experience.
The new and changed gameplay modes may be a good thing for some, but may be bad for others. The singleplayer is no longer a story and has now been refined to just two challenges: Over the Edge, a new challenge which requires you to answer as many questions as you can until you fall... over the edge... into a pool of goo. Stop the Clock makes its return as well, which is a mode where you must answer 30 questions as quickly as you can.
The ‘MyBuzz!’ game mode returns where you play up to three rounds of questions. This mode uses a bit of AI to figure out what questions would be the most fun for you based on your previous experiences, and you can also choose other options such as Buzz’s Choice, and Best Rated. It’s a great way to dive in to a random quiz that you’ll most likely enjoy.
Buzz! Quiz World supports up to eight players at a time, not just online but offline as well. There is a 45 minute 10 round mode, and a shorter 15 minute 4 round mode for those who can’t handle a 45 minute quiz marathon. The 10 round mode will take you through most of the different types of trivia games Buzz! Quiz World has to offer, however there are eleven different games in total. Over the Edge is also included in multiplayer, and makes for a hilarious situation for families and friends, without all the sticky goo all over your lounge room. Another new game mode is On the Spot, where the game randomly picks someone to give an answer, and everyone else participating gets to place bets on whether they will get it right. If you get the question right, you take the points. If you get it wrong, you could end up losing all your points. Finally, the last new game mode is Boiling Point, where each player has a thermometer behind their head which increases with every correct answer. The first player to get six questions right reaches the ‘boiling point’, ...
