Star Wars: Battlefront Review - PS2

For years we've watched the battles in the Star Wars movies, always wishing we could be apart in those battles. For game developers, this has also proving to be a big money maker with dozens of games being centred around them but most notable, they have all been set within flying or ground vehicles. But now you can finally live the battles in the eyes of a trooper, but not just any trooper. You can finally play as the bad guys!

Gameplay

Straight from the movies, Battlefront lets you take control of an ordinary troop in not-so-ordinary battles that are set within both sagas of Star Wars. The developers (Pandemic) have also been kind enough to include some battles that weren't in the movies but were in books and other video games. Your goal is to wipe out all enemy troops and to take control of each and every command post. Although, simply by taking control of every command post without killing all enemies you will also be able to claim yourself the victor. But be warned, just because a command post has been taken, doesn't mean you hold it for the remainder of the battle. Your opponent can easily take the command post from and reverse visa providing they/you are organised enough to take it back.

In combat your main opponent will be based on the movie battles with the Republic being enemies with the CIS (the Separatists) and the Rebel Alliance being enemies with the Galactic Empire. However, some planets you battle on will have locals that will either give one side a helping hand or will give both sides a second foe to battle with, but most notably, the locals aren't all that tough and can easily be wiped out. But keep in mind that if you do kill the locals you'll find your enemy's reinforcement numbers won't take any effect. Reinforcement represented on the top of your screen as bars (with red being your opponent and green being your side) that tell you how many more troops both you and your opponent has available. Take into account though that there will be a maximum of about 20-25 units per team on the battlefield at the one time so don't expect all 200+ reinforcements on each side to present at the same time. An excellent feature with this is you have unlimited lives providing the reinforcement numbers isn't at one because if you die then your team will lose due to the number going down to zero.

Battles are set across 16 different battlefields and 10 different planets including Naboo, Hoth, Kamino and Geonosis. With these battles comes three single-player modes which include; Historic Battles, Galactic Conquest and Instant Action. In Historic Battles, you basically fight in the battles you've seen in all the movies plus a few extra battles set on worlds that were not seen in the movies but were either books or other games where you played within ...
