Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Review - DS

Golf is the rich mans luxury and the poor mans dream. To some people there's nothing better than teeing off on a par-5 course where the grass is dewy wet, and the lakes are crystal clear. It is for this reason that much of the prominent land around the cities of the world are filled with this type of parkland exclusive to members only, and for this reason, we see games such as Tiger Woods PGA TOUR.

Everyone knows Tiger Woods, so what better character is there to use than a true champion who muscled Australia's Greg Norman out of his comfortable seat as king golfer of the world? Tiger Woods has been the host of several golf games over the past few years, but never has he been touched the way he is in the Nintendo DS version of the game. Read on to find out how you can touch Tiger Woods.

Gameplay

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR allows you to take control of your favourite golfers, hit the balls all over the courses, and become the ultimate golfer. There are five licensed courses from around the world, and one fantasy course based on the 2005 PGA TOUR. As you progress through each course defeating the other pro golfers, you get money which you can use to raise your skill levels and therefore be able to hit the ball further and more accurately. This idea has been done to bit's, and considering it's a handheld version, we thought maybe the game would involve a little more depth, but we were wrong. There is next to no depth in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2005 on the Nintendo DS at least. Perhaps the console versions have more to offer?

Your common golf shot in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR requires you to aim and shoot. Once you've selected where you want to hit the ball, it shows you how much percent power of the club you're using will require hitting it that far and then away you go to the next screen, hitting the ball. Of course when you first line up, the system sets up a 'safe shot' for you to hit if you're just a beginner. Making the ball go where you want it to go requires a little bit of accuracy. You use the stylus to swing around sort of a U shaped layout from right to left. This in no way represents a golf swing, but nevertheless it's how it works in the game. There's a boost bar on the right if you want to risk accuracy to hit the ball a few more meters. Rubbing the boost bar very quickly up and down will give you that extra bit of excretion as you whack your balls up the course.
