Combat in God of War is without a doubt some of the best stuff we've ever come across. You have your standard two swords which seem elastic due to the flaming magic engulfing them, and with them you master dozens of different moves which all have their usefulness in destroying different types of enemies from the best angles. There's one move which is the only move in the whole game that diminishes a certain type of enemy's shield and if you're not paying attention when you're taught it, you may get very stuck in some parts of the game. God of War isn't all dual-sword fighting though, you soon learn some magic. There are four different types of magic you can use throughout the game and they are changeable by using the d-pad. The first type is a circle of electricity which you'll find very useful right up to the very end. We won't tell you about the other magic skills as that would wreck parts of the game, but they are all useful in their own way.
Everything can be upgradeable. About a third of the way through the game you get your uber-sword which changes colours when it's upgraded. You may find this weapon to be a lot better and stronger against enemies, or you may prefer the fast efficient dual-swords you began with, either way, you'll probably want to upgrade them both as you progress. To upgrade your magic, you need to collect red orbs which can be found everywhere. You can find a whole stack of them in chests but the usual place you'll find them is when you defeat enemies. They're in crates, coffins, and basically any environmental structure that you can destroy, so be sure to get as much as you can. You can even get some red orbs in the sex mini-game, yep that's right, sex, this game is not for minors!
